Hi Dear Folk,
We did not take the train all the way to Myrdal, but got off at Vatnahalsen, there is a train stop and a mountain hotel. It's a stop for hikers and winter skiers who want to get out into the wilds.
We were served coffee and waffles, that did not live up to our expectations. A guide had said they were the best she'd tasted, don't know where she had been. Jean said she had had better waffles in Belgium and to be quite honest in American you can get a great waffle, my local diner serves better. The coffee was tepid, at least you could have a hot cup of coffee.
The ambience of the main rooms was nice, and to sit in the warmth on a rainy day was great.
Vatnahalsen in winter.
It came into my mind when standing on the station platform that these engines reminded me of the train that Streinikov rides around in, in the sixties version of Dr. Zhivago filmed by David Lean, great cinematography in that movie.
We took a little walk looked around a craft shop, more for ideas than what was reasonable to pay for such items. Although Jean did see a lovely down vest there and we could not duplicate it anywhere else and it was in the price range for Norway.
Back down the valley.
Christine

Yes the waffles were a disappointment but the hotel was beautiful.
