19th September 2018 Early Morning Stavanger, Norway

Hi Dear Folk,

Our first day in Norway.  Stavanger was not a port on our itinerary, we had to dock here because of bad weather in the North Sea.  In fact the whole Northern Hemisphere seemed to have some bad weather at this time, hurricanes and typhoons, so not a good time to be out on the ocean.

We were meant to sail the Eidfjord Fiord, unfortunately this was totally cancelled.

I think we were almost the first off the ship.  One of the drawbacks of being an older ship is that it takes longer to get to places.  We only had from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm, so Jean and I were going to make the most of it.  It does seem though that in Norway when it gets to September people are in a winter mode, because not too much opens until 11:00 am and closes at 3:00 pm.  In fact one young lady at a museum said to us, that the storms were a month early and that usually this time of year they never get a ship in port, because it is late.  Now I know never to take a cruise from the East coast of the States at this time of year because it is hurricane season, but we never thought about the North Sea.

These have to be the nicest locations for a Burger King and 7 Eleven.  We have 7 Eleven's in our part of the States, but I had no idea they were in Europe.  In fact we never go to them preferring WAWA in our area.

Part of this mustard colored building houses the tourist information center which we did visit for some ideas of what to see.

Here's the street cleaning crew, four people and honestly not a piece of litter in sight.  Norway is soo clean.  What I also enjoyed in Stavanger were the beautiful stone pavements and roadways, almost seamless.

  1. It was so clean. I think weather patterns are changing but we live and learn. Still if the weather was good we wouldn't have seen Stavanger.
