Hi Dear Folk,
I spent many happy hours as a child playing this game, but as was very interested to read the history on this and the connection with WWI.
"Mensch Aergere Dich Nicht" - "Don't Get Angry With Me".
The game that flourished in WWI trenches see here
This game has many different names as a child I knew it as Ludo, in America it is called Parcheesi, see here for the different names around the world.

I saw that article on the BBC news page and found it very interesting. Like you I grew up with ludo. Our children also had Sorry which is similar and another one with a dice under a plastic dome which you pressed down to toss the dice. Can't remember what it was called though. Basically still ludo and I still have a set now.
