March 17th 1920 Herbert Winlock curator of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and director of field work in Egypt found this tomb, The Tomb of Meketre.
The articles buried in the tomb tell the story of the one who died to the spirits. The cattle, the grain, the funeral boats. The man is sitting at front of the boat holding a lotus flower, the symbol of rebirth.
Later on in the afternoon Rob and I were wandering around on our own in the Asian Art area where we ran across these items, buried in an Asian tomb I think Chinese, the idea of telling the story in the after life, so similar to what the Egyptians did. Sorry my photos here are not clearer but my camera was dying by now.
