28th August 2018 Letheringsett Watermill Norfolk

Hi Dear Folk,

We just stumbled upon Letheringsett Watermill as we drove by.  I took the little tour of the mill which is 215 years old, and spoke with the lady who now owns it.  She inherited the lease for it from her dad and mum.  Back in the eighties her dad retired from the Navy.  He had travelled all around the world and thought that our heritage in the UK was not being preserved as it should have been.

Somehow he heard of the mill which was in a terrible state of disrepair, and got together with the lady who owned it.  I think it was part of a big estate and he was given a very long term lease on the mill and agreed to do it up.  The first winter while working on the mill, a very bad storm downed a lot of trees, but it was good for him, because he was able to replace all the wooden floors in the mill and it has several stories.

Her father ran it as a flour mill, then when he died her mum and her and now it is her and her husband.  I would have loved to bought some flour here, but would never have got it home.  My sister did, they have wheat and spelt flour all stone ground and also oats. Their plans for the future are to have a bakery and tea shop there, do go to their website and have a look.  Read about the history and take a look at what they sell.
